1999 is regarded as one of the “golden years” of trance music, with good reason. Naming all the classic records released in those twelve months would lead to this article being nothing but a list, so let’s concentrate on one–Armin van Buuren’s seminal track Communication. Sweeping the trance scene in the summer of ’99, it later went on to see two more releases, Communication Part 2 in 2000 and Communication Part 3 in 2007. If we’re honest, the difference in these versions was negligible, but now it’s alive once again, with Communication Part 3 [The Remixes]. If you’re confused, don’t worry about the nomenclature; just listen to the music.
The music in question brings the track right up to date, with four new remixes that are sure to set the hairs standing on end for any trance aficionado. Starting us off is British legend John Askew, with a stomping 140bpm trancer, complete with an epic take on the original melody and some crazy acid lines. Bringing it down, but only by a notch, is the James Dymond remix, which features a stunning atmospheric break and a beefed up drop. Faruk Sabanci provides a mix of big-room with a hint of electro, ideal for that cross-over between trance and house. Rounding us off is Tomas Heredia, giving us a groovy and techy vibe, while also providing another orchestral break and a drop which remains faithful to the original.
Out now as a Beatport Exclusive, this is a release will appeal to the hard-line trance fanatic and the casual cross-over listener alike.
